Volkswagen iD.4

Summary

The Volkswagen ID.4 is a larger, SUV version of the electric ID.3 small family hatchback.

Like the ID.3, the ID.4 is based on Volkswagen’s new EV platform, which is rear-wheel drive rather than front-wheel drive, although the ID.4 GTX model is all-wheel drive.

The interior also follows the same approach as the ID.3, with virtually all car controls accessed via the central touchscreen.

There are three main drive modes, Eco, Comfort, Sport (plus Individual), and you can choose the ‘B’ setting on the gear selector for increased levels of brake regeneration.

There are six ID.4 trim levels – Life, Style, Family, Max, GTX and GTX Max – and two battery sizes – 52 kWh (Pure and Pure Performance) and 77 kWh (Pro Performance and GTX). There are also four different power outputs – 148 PS, 170 PS, 204 PS and 299 PS.

Electric driving ranges for ID.4 models vary from 213 miles to 328 miles depending on the battery and the trim level. The ID.4 can rapid charge at up to 125 kW, when a charge from 5% to 80% should take around 38 minutes.

A heat pump, available as an option, is designed to warm the car’s interior with less impact on the driving range in cold weather.
