BMW iX3

Summary

The BMW iX3 is an all-electric SUV which shares the same platform and body style with the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid X3s. The iX3 is differentiated by blue trim details, including blue diffusers at the rear replacing the exhausts on the petrol and diesel models.

The iX3 has an 80 kWh battery, a 289PS electric motor, and is rear-wheel drive rather than all-wheel drive.

The iX3 interior is also virtually identical to that of the X3, with BMW’s iDrive infotainment system offering the ability to control the touchscreen using a rotary dial and physical shortcut buttons rather than having to press the screen. There are also physical buttons for the radio and for the heating and ventilation.

The navigation system displays a map in the central touchscreen, with a simpler map in the driver’s instrument display, and a head-up display gives clear directions.

The iX3 has three drive modes: Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport. A synthesised soundtrack – ‘BMW IconicSounds Electric’ – is most evident in Sport mode.

The iX3 has a maximum rapid charging rate of 150 kW, allowing it to charge from 0 to 80% in as little as 34 minutes. At a home wallbox a full charge should take 7.5 hours.
